Have you ever had this happen?

Three reports. Three versions of the company.

Have you ever spent a leadership meeting agreeing on the numbers instead of deciding what to do?

Fictional business scenarios. Companies, scenes and resolutions are invented to illustrate Smokejumper's approach; they are not customer results.

The situation

The CEO asks whether the business is getting closer to its growth goal. Sales shows a strong pipeline. Operations shows a capacity problem. Finance shows cash pressure. Each report is internally reasonable. They use different dates, definitions and assumptions. The meeting becomes a reconciliation exercise. Everyone leaves with work to do, but nobody can explain which decision moved the company closer to its destination.

AI can produce another confident report before a leadership team has agreed what success means. The more useful starting point is a shared destination, a small scorecard and responsibility for acting on it.

How we would approach it

Connect the problem to the company plan.

01. Ask the four questions: Where are you going? What do you have to do to get there? What will get in your way? How will you know you're getting closer? Resolve differences in the answers before choosing tools.

02. Build a company-level plan covering people, workflows, information and systems. Define the scorecard, the source and owner of each measure, and the decisions each measure should support.

03. Choose the first development phase by business value, information readiness, dependencies and employee participation. Use a virtual Innovation Center to test capabilities with the people doing the work. Review actual results, teach the team and revise the plan.

The fictional resolution

A better decision, with an owner.

In the fictional company, the next meeting starts with one agreed picture and the assumptions still in dispute. The leadership team can decide who must act, by when and what evidence would change the plan. AI development has a job to do because the company has decided where it is going.

What we would measure

Track unresolved definition disputes, decisions with an accountable owner, overdue actions and movement in the agreed business measures. A more attractive dashboard is not evidence of a stronger company.
