How it works

Give innovation
room and responsibility.

The lab is staffed by AI professionals, engineers, data scientists and product and program managers. Company employees contribute the expertise needed to make the work useful in the real business.

The lab gives the team a safe space to try ideas, examine assumptions and explore beyond the initial mandate. Work moves into operations through deliberate testing, acceptance and an adoption path suited to the situation.

Safe means defined data access, a separate development environment, clear review responsibilities and controlled releases—not an absence of risk.

The people in the framework

Professional expertise.
Company ownership.

01

The professional lab team

AI professionals, engineers, data scientists and product and program managers develop and thoroughly test the work in a separate innovation environment.

02

Innovation Captain

A person assigned by the company coordinates its participation, helps manage workflow-specific AI Chaperones and connects their work to the program.

03

AI Chaperones

Company employees represent the people who do a particular job. They work shoulder to shoulder with AI engineers to shape, develop and test the deliverables.

Meaningful participation

An assignment
with time to do it.

Being an AI Chaperone recognizes an employee’s expertise and gives them responsibility for representing colleagues who do similar work. It is an opportunity to develop new capability and help shape the company’s future.

Participation is part-time, with protected time on the calendar, management support, defined responsibilities and clear accountability. It must not become extra work squeezed around an unchanged workload.

Working shoulder to shoulder with engineers builds practical understanding. The aim is for participants to leave with the confidence and capability to carry more of the work forward themselves.

Every deliverable has a path

Develop. Test.
Prepare. Adopt.

01

Develop and explore

Build with people who understand the workflow. Use approved data and document assumptions, constraints and new possibilities.

02

Test thoroughly

Evaluate performance, exceptions, access controls and fit. The AI Chaperone and professional team work together against agreed acceptance criteria.

03

Prepare for adoption

Choose a path suited to the deliverable and the people affected. Assign the operational owner, education, support and feedback needed.

Education and employee feedback continue after introduction into daily work. Review measured results and improve deliberately.
